The increasing regulatory and productivity demands placed on analytical laboratories in all industries had a direct impact on LIMS and other software providers. We have see a significant growth in the need for advanced technological solutions, manufacturers are replacing paper records and home-grown computerised sample-tracking systems with commercial LIMS that are designed to make compliance with regulations more straightforward.
According to Paula Hollywood, the principal author of the ARC study ‘The explosion of data associated with the increased number of test samples researchers and manufacturers are generating will have a positive impact on the outlook for LIMS and supported software. Enterprises are seeking efficient and cost-effective solutions to handle this increase in the amount of data and ensure regulatory compliance.’
A study by the ARC Advisory Group showed the Worldwide LIMS market was $307.4m in 2005, and forecasts a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.3 per cent over the next five years, taking revenues to more than $398.7m in 2010.
Today, laboratories may be required to change their processes on a frequent basis. This is a challenge when implementing a LIMS unless the system is extremely configurable. However, there has always been a trade-off in choosing a LIMS – configurability vs. speed of implementation. With Onlabs there is no compromise just a simple effective solution to the problem.
